Trainee Internal Sales Engineer (DW2440)




North West

Location: Manchester


The Company: The market Leader in Flow, Level, Pressure and Temperature Instrumentation.


The Role:

  • Handling incoming customer enquiries by telephone, e-mail and fax and CRM activity (from Field Sales)
  • Prequalification of technical requirements
  • Prequalification of commercial requirements and to apply the company credit management processes
  • Preparation of quotes
  • High quality customer liaison during quote phase
  • Liaise with Product Specialists, SISE and mentor at all stages of the Sales Process
  • Quotation follow-ups
  • Liaise with Field Sales Engineers
  • Own and manage all customer issues, including returns, complaints, negotiations and credit queries. Work closely with the Customer Care Team
  • Liaise with project engineers to hand over information on large projects
  • To carry out full contract review on all orders prior to SAP order entry.
  • Enter orders for class 3 customers on SAP and to follow the SAP processes to ensure accurate and timely delivery and reporting to the customer.
  • To work to the company QA procedures.
  • To take ownership of class 2 accounts as experience develops,
  • Liaison with the controlling process to administer credit queries.
  • To work under the guidance and supervision of a nominated mentor.
  • Develop an understanding of the office systems, i.e.: SAP, CRM, Lotus Notes & Applicator
  • Learn Product Knowledge via formal training, on the job training, self-learning and e-learning.
  • Prepare and present specific product presentations
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of commercial awareness
  • Attend telephone courses and quote follow-up workshops
  • Generally, gain an understanding of company business including specific industry segments



  • Ideally educated to Degree level – technical degree or equivalent relevant industry qualification.
  • Must have English Language and Maths GCSE
  • Previous work experience in the process industry or with instrumentation would be preferred or alternatively commercial sales experience
  • Up to 24 months on the job training within the technical/customer care teams
  • Good communication skills and telephone manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high regard for exceptional customer service
  • Computer literate
  • Able to multi-task
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work as a team member and also as an individual
